Description
This is the first time we have included Lesbos and Chios, islands that rarely feature in other companies' itineraries. Patmos is the most important place of pilgrimage in the Aegean and we will show you views of the fortified monastery you will not have seen before. Our two days on Chios, an island with a turbulent history, will take us to villages which once thrived on the production of gum-mastic. The circumnavigation of Lesbos, birthplace of Sappho, Aesop and Arion - an island with a rich literary heritage - will give you perspectives often verdant, but sometimes austere. Samos has world-class museums and Pythagorio is one vast archaeological site. Peter will lead readings from classical texts and Andrew will cover the historical and cultural side. The Aegean Clipper is a fast and comfortable boat, with lots of space - ideal for an extended trip.
