- In detail
Fire rated glass blocks are used in various areas and in all market sectors, usually in compartmentalised areas, fire escape routes, third storey loft conversions and external boundary walls in close proximity to other buildings or public highways.
Fire rated panels (areas) are usually specified via an architect or a condition instructed by Building Control under building regulations.
Glass Block Technology has three ranges of fire blocks: G60/F15 (G = Integrity / F = Thermal Isolation), G60/ F30 & G60/F60
The most commonly used product is F30 fire glass blocks in fire escape routes, apartment common areas, separation of kitchen to living areas & third storey loft conversions. All Glass Block Technology fire glass blocks are certified to BS - EN standards.
Statement: All products tested exceed the named requirements, i.e: F30 blocks achieved in excess of thirty minutes in testing situation - not 26 or 29 minutes. Glass Blocks fire tests are measured in increments of 15 minutes.
A general guide to the definition between Fire Integrity & Thermal isolation:
Fire Integrity: (G) The time taken for a glass block wall to become destabilised & the blocks to crack in the situation of a fire.
Thermal Isolation: (F) The time it takes for heat to transfer through the glass block from the side of the fire to the other face.
