Description

It's no wonder New Zealand is one of the world's most desirable destinations. New Zealand is a dream-like landscape of sweeping mountains, glaciers and wide open space just begging to be explored. The friendly cities which sit proudly atop of these precious panoramas offer an abundance of fresh cuisine, Kiwi and Maori heritage as well as energetic culture.

In the North Island visit Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, where you should climb Mount Eden or the Sky Tower for excellent city views. Auckland also offers Bastian Point, Viaduct Harbour which is home to the 2000 America's Cup Village and Waitemata Harbour. History fans should drop in on the Auckland Museum and shopaholics should head to stylish Parnell to be spoiled for souvenirs.

Take a boat ride inside the unique Waitomo Glow Worm Grotto, or in Rotorua visit the Te Puia Thermal Reserve which is equally exceptional. For a completely different perspective of New Zealand enter the historic gold mining Arrowtown on the Arrow River, previously one of the world's richest rivers.

New Zealand is most famous for its inspiring landscapes though. Take the TranzAlpine Train and cut through the sublime Southern Alps to Franz Josef Glacier, or enjoy an optional scenic flight for breathtaking views of these natural phenomena. Travel through the rainforest of World Heritage Fiordland National Park where photo opportunities will be afforded by the luminous Mirror Lakes, Pop's Lookout, Claudu Valley and Bowen Falls before you reach the mystical Milford Sound. If you can tear yourself away from Milford sound, New Zealand's most famous tourist destination and the world's top travel spot, travel over the Devils Stair Case, along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau and its lake, the largest in the South Island. Also view Mount Cook National Park and Lake Tekapo with its Church of Good Shepherd for moments of true tranquility.

Head to Christchurch to explore Rainbow Springs Nature Park; here you may even spot a Kiwi, New Zealand's national icon! In Christchurch, you'll also get an idea of New Zealand's agricultural culture at the Agrodome Sheep Show, the unique and multi-award-winning stage show where you'll see the art of sheep shearing and more.

For more colonial heritage, visit Dunedin, the Scottish influenced city where you can enjoy a guided tour at Larnach Castle. Oamaru is another unique town worth visiting and is famous for its curious white limestone buildings.

At Cook Strait join a cruise to windy Wellington, New Zealand's capital. Nothing illustrates New Zealand better though, than taking a moment to absorb that truly heavenly scenery from a mountain or lakeside spot.
