Handmade Display Cabinet

Created from Mahogany and veneered throughout with Macassa Ebony,the Display Cabinet's mouldings are produced by hand with each curved corner being first turned on the lathe and then divided into segments and laid at the corner junction of each section of the cabinet.
Each rounded corner is carved by hand and then precisely fitted to create a delicate panel which in itself is inlaid with Macassa and gilded with 24 carat gold.

Each door was traditionally manufactured using mortise and tennon (all cut by hand). The beading created three panels per door, to which hand-made cylinder glass was fitted, each door was veneered in Macassa in a technique called 'feather banding'. The veneer was selected to enable the top section of each door to 'book match' (the timber's pattern similar to a mirror image). The veneers were laid by hand in the traditional manner with the use of animal glue and a veneering hammer.
