- In detail
Where individual cracks need treatment prior to resurfacing, for small areas of pavement repair or treatment around iron works, Tensar's family of asphalt reinforcement products includes GlasstexPatch, specifically designed for control of localised reflective cracking and to be quickly and easily applied using a minimum of equipment and manpower.
Tensar GlasstexPatch is a composite made up of a pre-coated glass yarn grid integrated into a polymer modified bitumen membrane. The bitumen backing is protected with a peel-off release film to prevent adhesion within the roll, while the top of the product is protected with quartz sand. The application requires heat on both the underside of the material and the pavement for optimum adhesion to the substrate. The continuous bitumen membrane provides stress relief to the cracked substrate while the high tensile modulus coated glass yarn grid provides reinforcement.
Laid by hand prior to asphalt surfacing, GlasstexPatch is simply unrolled along the centreline of the crack or pavement joint while removing the release film, with firm brushing needed to encourage bond to the substrate. On poorly adhesive or open texture substrates a tack coat is recommended. The GlasstexPatch is then covered with an asphalt overlay on the same day, to a minimum compacted thickness of 40mm.
