Description
With an office in Melbourne, ACFEA Legato is perfectly placed to take advantage of the many attractions, both cultural and physical, that Australia and New Zealand have to offer. As distances are so huge, touring programmes tend to concentrate on the south east area around Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, which can be done by land.
Brisbane With a population of around 1.6 million, Brisbane is Australia's third largest city. It was founded in 1824 as a convict settlement and was not opened to free settlement until 1842. The Brisbane River meanders through the suburbs and the city into Morton Bay, which is dotted with beautiful tropical islands. The atmosphere of the city is relaxed, without the bustle of the two southern cities. Brisbane boasts a modern transport system, a wide selection of international cuisine, arts and entertainment, and beautiful parks and gardens, which thrive in the tropical climate.
Canberra Canberra, built around its centrepiece, Lake Burley Griffin, is Australia's capital city. Parliament House, the seat of Australian Government, sits high on Capital Hill and offers a commanding view over the city. It faces ANZAC Parade and the Australian War Memorial, which is the Nation's tribute to those who fell in the defence of the country. As well as being home to over ten million trees and shrubs, this pristine city is also the custodian of Australia's Art Treasures. These are beautifully displayed in the National Gallery. Just under 500,000 people live in Canberra, most of whom are associated with Government.
Sydney The birthplace of the nation, Sydney is Australia's best-known city and is home to four million people. This thriving metropolis is renowned for its great natural beauty, its world famous buildings and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Modern city buildings contrast with the beautiful structures of Sydney's convict past, and a stroll through the streets is a stroll through history. Visit the Opera House, the Rocks, Macquarie Street and the Botanic Gardens to enjoy a diversity of experience.
Melbourne Situated at the head of Port Phillip and centred on the north bank of the Yarra River, Melbourne has a population of over three million. Suburbs stretch in all directions, particularly around the east of the bay and out to the picturesque Dandenong Ranges. Traversing the precincts of the city will take you on a journey through the cultures of the world. Melbourne is full of surprises and a leisurely stroll or a short tram ride in any direction is the beginning of a journey to uncover the secrets of this unique city.
