Legionnaires Disease is a rightfully dreaded bacterial infection that's caused primarily by the shortcomings of modern technology. The bacteria causing this potentially lethal infection - Legionella - thrive in warm, stagnant water. Tap systems of large buildings, such as hospitals, hotels, nursing homes, schools and other public buildings account for the majority of the cases reported in recent years.
When offered favorable conditions the Legionella bacteria will grow and multiply fast. Stagnant water within the temperature range of 20-50˚c provides the perfect environment. In complex and comprehensive tap water systems, there is often a risk for conditions like these being established due to periods of low water consumption or "dead legs" in piping.
